Temporary Professions
The 10th February stands out with its celebration of the Solemnity of St Scholastica and Sr Marie-Chanelles Temporary Profession. Sister comes from Samoa and her family could not be with her but the assurance of their prayers gave her great comfort. Rev.Fr.Kit Cunningham IC presided at the Mass, concelebrating with Rev.Fr. Selman and a young French missionary priest. A soft, wintry light gently lit Sr Marie Chanelle - serene, composed, tranquil. This was a surprise to her as she expected to be a bundle of nerves. Someone made her a purple and yellow lei of fresh flowers which she wore all day. After the reception the community had our attempt at a Samoan banquet, the main item being yams cooked in honey.
On 8th May Sr Augusta made her Temporary Profession in the presence of many friends and several family members who had travelled from the Philippines to be with sister on this special day. The Rt Revd Bishop Alan Hopes was the chief celebrant and preacher and was joined by several other priest friends of our community. At the reception after Mass our guests enjoyed a Filippino banquet and after the cutting of the Profession cake, were very touched to hear sister and her family and other members of the Filippino community sing the Our Father in Tagalog.
August saw us celebrating yet another Temporary Profession when on Tuesday 10th at 10.00am our Sr Mariana made her first Vows in the presence of our Mother General and a surprisingly large congregation considering it was a working weekday for most people. Reverend Father Aelred Burrows OSB was the Chief Celebrant and Preacher and gave us an inspiring homily on the meaning of Monastic life and commitment. This stood Sr Mariana in good stead as she found herself the very next day flying out to our community in Sechura, Peru for some months.
Tyburn Association of Adoration
Founded in 1964, this year marked the 40th Anniversary of the Tyburn Association of Adoration. We celebrated the occasion with a Mass of Thanksgiving on 19 June. A good number of our vigilants as they are known, were able to attend and after Mass we all processed down to the garth and the tomb of our Foundress Marie Adele Garnier. This was a rare opportunity for the laity to come into our enclosure and pray at the tomb of Mother Foundress and everyone took advantage of this special privilege.
